George R.R. Martin thinks The Winds of Winter will be released in 2018, perhaps as well as 'Fire and Blood', fictional history book of the Targaryen kings. theguardian This thread is locked
The Meereenese Knot was a timeline & plotting problem that George RR Martin encountered while writing A Dance with Dragons. Primarily, the knot revolved around timing the arrival of POV & other characters to Meereen, but the timing issue had second and third order effects on plotting ADWD. The Characters that tangled up Martin's writing of ADWDThe two previous books were quite good, they helped building up the story and showed new perspectives of the world of ice and fire but now the story is leading up to truth behind the thin veil of secrets. My picks are, the truth of Jon's mother, the maester's conspiracy, Daenerys memories about the house with a red door and the nature of the spoilers. I don't think George R.R. Martin is a bad author or a bad person. I am not going to crap all over him for not releasing Winds of Winter. I don't think he will ever finish the stort because in my opinion he has more of a passion for Westeros and the world he created than he does for A Song of Ice and Fire.
Like if winds came out and that the R+L=J or Aegon = Blackfyre theories werenāt true, people would freak out despite the fact that George never confirmed either of them. They may be, they may not be. Oh yeah, I get annoyed with the 'basically canon' stuff too. People deciding that certain things 'have' to happen.
George RR Martin 'astonished' by fan support over missed Game of Thrones deadline - After Game of Thrones author confessed he would not finish sixth book, The Winds of Winter, before new TV series airs in spring, his blog was deluged with comments saying, āDonāt sweat it, GeorgeāUntil recently, a typical update was just "Yes, yes I'm working on it". If 400-500 manuscript pages is 225-300 published pages, then that's the equivalent of 15-20 chapters. When I think of it that way, it really doesn't sound too bad. It's on now. Winds is coming in mid 2025 /s.
